"Door PMDD ben ik elke maand extreem negatief"

Weekblad Libelle: Veel vrouwen voelen zich niet lekker voordat ze ongesteld worden. Maar als je PMDD hebt, kun je wel twee weken last hebben van extreme angst, woede en vermoeidheid.
Alleen maar kunnen huilen, angstig zijn, overal over tobben, je down, onzeker en depressief voelen; elke maand opnieuw kampt Heidi (44) ermee. Zij heeft PMDD, premenstrueel dysforie syndroom. "Ik ben mezelf niet in die periode. Twee weken in de maand ben ik een spontane, sociale vrouw die goed in haar vel zit en blij is met haar leven. Maar in de twee weken tussen mijn eisprong en menstruatie ervaar ik alles negatief. Ik heb opeens een heel laag zelfbeeld en zie overal beren op de weg. Ook denk ik dat niemand me lief of leuk vindt en ik makkelijk gemist kan worden omdat ik toch altijd faal en alles verkeerd doe".
Extreme reactie
Heidi is niet de enige die elke maand wordt geveld door lichamelijke, maar vooral extreme mentale, emotionele klachten. Volgens Patricia Pijnacker, medeoprichter en bestuurslid van Stichting PMDD Nederland, ervaart naar schatting vijf tot acht procent van de vruchtbare vrouwen maandelijks hetzelfde.
